Déjà vu sets in with early goals from Southern States

Oak Grove, MS (Friday, June 2nd) – Friday’s contest against Southern States closed out the stretch of four consecutive away games, but not in the fashion the club was hoping for. Crescent City was met with a familiar start against Southern States, giving up an early goal that would set the tone for the remainder of the game, leading to a 2-1 loss against the conference leaders.

The game started out with an early opportunity for CCFC in the first 2 minutes when forward Cristian Canales displayed his speed down the right side, whipping in a great ball near the post before it was cleared by the home team. Shortly after, in the 5th minute, the hosts would see their first goal of the evening come from a counter down the right side, where a low cross at the top of the 6-yard box would find the runner, making it 1-0. Not wasting any time, in the 8th minute, the Hattiesburg crew would get on the board again after a long-range shot from the left side found its way past the CCFC keeper. Crescent City would get on the board in the 30th minute from a Nestor Peralta Jr. free-kick just 25 yards out at the top of the box. Both teams would have a few more chances that fell short before the first-half whistle blew.

The second half would prove to be one of the more frustrating halves CCFC would take part in this season. A tactical adjustment to push higher up the field to press the opposition proved to be an improvement, as CCFC would win the ball in dangerous areas multiple times. However, the lack of the final pass or shots on target would be the writing on the wall for the club’s third defeat of the season. It was an unfortunate ending to a much-improved effort until the final whistle.

Crescent City returns home for the next three weekends, starting off with BRSC Capitals this Saturday. The Capitals are coming off an impressive 4-2 road win against Gaffa FC and are also in a must-win situation this weekend. Snag your tickets or take advantage of the discounted Season Pass.
