Déjà vu sets in with early goals from Southern States

Oak Grove, MS (Friday, June 2nd) – Friday’s contest against Southern States closed out the stretch of four consecutive away games, but not in the fashion the club was hoping for. Crescent City was met with a familiar start against Southern States, giving up an early goal that would set the tone for the remainder of the game, leading to a 2-1 loss against the conference leaders.

The game started out with an early opportunity for CCFC in the first 2 minutes when forward Cristian Canales displayed his speed down the right side, whipping in a great ball near the post before it was cleared by the home team. Shortly after, in the 5th minute, the hosts would see their first goal of the evening come from a counter down the right side, where a low cross at the top of the 6-yard box would find the runner, making it 1-0. Not wasting any time, in the 8th minute, the Hattiesburg crew would get on the board again after a long-range shot from the left side found its way past the CCFC keeper. Crescent City would get on the board in the 30th minute from a Nestor Peralta Jr. free-kick just 25 yards out at the top of the box. Both teams would have a few more chances that fell short before the first-half whistle blew.

The second half would prove to be one of the more frustrating halves CCFC would take part in this season. A tactical adjustment to push higher up the field to press the opposition proved to be an improvement, as CCFC would win the ball in dangerous areas multiple times. However, the lack of the final pass or shots on target would be the writing on the wall for the club’s third defeat of the season. It was an unfortunate ending to a much-improved effort until the final whistle.

Crescent City returns home for the next three weekends, starting off with BRSC Capitals this Saturday. The Capitals are coming off an impressive 4-2 road win against Gaffa FC and are also in a must-win situation this weekend. Snag your tickets or take advantage of the discounted Season Pass.

Crescent City leaves Jackson with a point in hand

Jackson, MS (May 29th, 2023) – Crescent City continued their four consecutive game away run, visiting the league champs, Gaffa FC, over Memorial Day weekend. Coming off a deflating loss in Alexandria, it was evident that a result was needed to keep the playoff hopes alive. A hard-fought battle between the two teams ended in a 0-0 draw.

The first half opened up with the home team flying on all cylinders and pinning the New Orleans boys back in their own half for much of the first 10 minutes of play. While most of the play was happening on the defensive foot for CCFC, the young keeper, Andrew Garvey, didn’t have much to worry about as both centerbacks, Anthony Peters and Alex Michael, kept Gaffa from having any open looks at goal. CCFC would find their rhythm and begin transitioning the play into Gaffa’s side of the field as the first half progressed. The first chance at scoring came in the 17th minute when winger Crisitian Canales found the end of a great cross from right back PJ Lynch, which was easily collected by the Gaffa keeper. In the 24th minute, Anthony Peters found himself with an open look as he took an ambitious 30-yard shot that sailed wide of the goal. Crescent City would keep that momentum going in the 29th minute as PJ Lynch sent another great cross to find a streaking Cristian Canales, who put it past the home team’s keeper, but an unfortunate offside call would negate the goal. In the last 5 minutes of the first half, another cross from PJ Lynch found the head of forward Scott Burris, sailing just wide.

The second half posed major issues for both sides and the referees as half of the field lights malfunctioned, forcing the game to stop in the 50th minute. Both teams agreed to play through the unfortunate occurrence, and the referees allowed the game to continue. Alex Michael had an opportunity and fired off an early shot that sailed wide shortly after the stoppage. In the 66th minute, CCFC capitalized on the karma as an offside flag called off an impressive Gaffa counter-attack, keeping the game tied at 0-0. Ryan Jeanfreau tested the Gaffa keeper after another PJ Lynch cross sailed into the box in the 69th minute. Gaffa began to pose more danger on the counter-attacking front as the game went on, forcing Andrew Garvey to come up big after a 1v1 opportunity in the 74th minute. The last significant chance from either club came in the 83rd minute when Anthony Peters pummeled a header into the top corner, but an acrobatic effort from the Gaffa keeper closed out the game at 0-0.

Crescent City closes out their four game away run with a trip to Oak Grove, MS to take on Southern States SC II. The first meeting on May 6th finished with the Mississippi crew taking home 3 points after an early penalty secured the victory.

Pineville, LA (May 22, 2023) – In a highly anticipated Gulf Coast Premier League (GCPL) showdown, Central Louisiana FC demonstrated their superiority as they secured a convincing 4-1 victory over Crescent City FC. The match, which took place at Wildcat Stadium in Pineville, Louisiana, marked Central Louisiana’s opening home game, adding to their determination to make a strong impression. While Crescent City FC entered the contest with a recent road win under their belt, their slow start and struggles to find rhythm allowed Central Louisiana to take control early on.

The consequence was a quick goal for Central Louisiana, as Manuel Concetti broke the deadlock in the 6th minute. The home team swiftly extended their lead in the 11th minute through Shakeem Walters, leaving Crescent City reeling at 2-0. Faced with an early deficit, Crescent City made positional adjustments to regain their composure and momentum.

The adjustments proved fruitful as Crescent City settled into the game and started creating opportunities. However, Central Louisiana’s resolute defense made it difficult for Crescent City to break through and create clear-cut chances. Crescent City’s first notable opportunity arrived in the 27th minute when Hisham Abdelaziz unleashed a powerful shot from 30 yards out. However, the Central Louisiana goalkeeper showcased his abilities by comfortably saving the rocketing effort. The remainder of the first half witnessed Central Louisiana also enjoying chances to further extend their lead, but their execution fell short.

The second half got off to a disastrous start for Crescent City FC. In the 47th minute, Shakeem Walters skillfully maneuvered his way out of a difficult situation in the corner and delivered a precise pass to Manuel Concetti, who found the back of the net to make it 3-0 in favor of Central Louisiana. Undeterred, Crescent City began to gain better control of the game and generated more positive attacking opportunities. However, the stout defense of Central Louisiana denied Crescent City any significant chances in the box.

Central Louisiana’s goalkeeper proved instrumental for the home team, making a crucial save in the 74th minute that led to a swift counter-attack resulting in their fourth goal of the match. Crescent City managed to pull one goal back in the 84th minute, with Ryan Jeanfreau converting a penalty kick after being fouled in the box. Crescent City fought valiantly in the dying minutes, continuously pressing forward and launching shots on goal, but Central Louisiana’s defense held firm.

Central Louisiana FC showcased their superiority and efficiency in a commanding 4-1 victory over Crescent City FC. Despite Crescent City’s slow start and struggles to find their rhythm, they demonstrated resilience by settling into the game and creating opportunities.

Crescent City FC secures victory against Louisiana Krewe II on the road

Lafayette, LA (May 15th, 2023) – In a dramatic Gulf Coast Premier League (GCPL) clash, Crescent City FC showcased their resilience and determination as they triumphed over Louisiana Krewe II with a hard-fought 2-1 victory. Despite facing challenging circumstances, including a delayed kickoff due to a lightning delay and malfunctioning stadium lights, Crescent City displayed their dominance in possession throughout the match. This win proved to be a crucial response following their previous home defeat against Southern States SC, as Crescent City aimed to earn valuable points on the road.

From the onset, Crescent City demonstrated their attacking intent as midfielder, Kenroy Rodriguez, unleashed an early shot that sailed just over the Krewe’s goal in the 6th minute. The pressure continued to mount as Rodriguez tested the Krewe keeper again in the 10th minute, only to be denied by a superb save by Krewe keeper, Zakary Elagamy. As the half progressed, both teams battled for control, but it was Crescent City who appeared more threatening in the final third. In the 26th minute, Rodriguez once again came agonizingly close to breaking the deadlock, as his shot sailed just over the crossbar, leaving the Krewe defense breathing a collective sigh of relief.

The 34th minute brought a moment of danger for Crescent City, as the Krewe mounted a dangerous attack from a well-placed cross, narrowly missing their forward in front of goal. The Krewe would seize an opportunity when they were awarded a free kick just 25 yards out which was beautifully taken and put the home team on the board first. Crescent City’s persistence was finally rewarded in the 44th minute when midfielder Leo Barros proved his clinical ability. Peralta’s effort took a deflection off a Krewe defender, finding the back of the net and giving Crescent City a well-deserved lead.

As the match progressed, Crescent City continued to create opportunities, with Leo Barros proving instrumental. In the 72nd minute, Barros unleashed another shot on target, testing the Krewe keeper, who made a vital save to keep the scoreline close. The game’s closing stages witnessed both teams engaging in fierce battles, with Crescent City’s goalkeeper, Connor Mouille, making a crucial tip-over save in the 87th minute before being forced out of the game due to a collision.

Southern States SC got off to a dream start as they were awarded a penalty just one minute into the game. The second half saw Southern States come out with more intensity, putting pressure on Crescent City’s defense. Left-back Stu Hayers made a crucial tackle in the 49th minute to stop a promising attack from the visitors. Southern States continued to press forward, and in the space of five minutes, they tested Crescent City’s keeper, Connor Allen, three times. Crescent City Football Club Names Lowery Crews as Director of Community Outreach, partners with The 18th Ward Sports Club

New Orleans, LA (February 14th, 2023) – Crescent City Football Club is proud to announce the appointment of Lowery Crews as the Director of Community Outreach. Mr. Crews brings with him a wealth of experience and a passion for promoting the sport of soccer and improving the communities it serves.

In this role, Mr. Crews will lead the club’s outreach efforts, working with local schools, organizations, and businesses to provide educational and recreational opportunities for young people and families. CCFC will also partner with The 18th Ward, a local organization of which Mr. Crews is the founder, dedicated to providing high-quality, low-cost youth sports programs in New Orleans, where everyone is welcome regardless of race, gender, income, or neighborhood.

“I am honored to be joining Crescent City Football Club and to have the opportunity to work with such a dedicated team,” said Mr. Crews. “I look forward to working with the community to promote the sport of soccer and provide opportunities for young people and families to participate and grow.”

Mr. Crews’ passion for community outreach stems from his own experiences as a parent searching for quality, low-cost, and diverse youth sports programs. “As a parent of two kids, I couldn’t find a high-quality, low-cost, and diverse youth sports program so I started The 18th Ward in 2019 to bring kids and families together from all 17 wards in New Orleans. We started with 40 soccer players in 2019 and by the end of this 2022-2023 school year we will have created 4,000 youth opportunities through a variety of sports and workforce development programs.”

As the Director of Outreach, Mr. Crews has high aspirations for the club. “I hope to help families navigate a fractured system of youth sports and work with a range of partners to create a strong pipeline of quality, affordable, and inclusive programs that give our young people the opportunity to achieve their goals whether that’s staying active through adult programs with Crescent City Soccer or into more competitive environments like college soccer at Xavier or semi pro with CCFC.”

“I believe clubs should exist to serve the entire community. Currently, it’s a privilege in New Orleans to have access to great soccer coaches and great facilities. There’s potential to change this reality in our city with the right group of people on board. I believe New Orleans can be a model for other urban communities. I’m excited to demonstrate how we can increase access and participation for youth and families.”

The Club President, Jonathan Rednour, echoes Mr. Crews’ enthusiasm, “Improving our efforts to truly become a club for our community has been a critical missing piece to our mission as an organization. Having Mr. Crews join our team and partnering with a great organization like The 18th Ward brings much needed value to our outreach ambitions.”

“The 18th Ward and CCFC are team-oriented. People should expect open arms from us and an open mind about how we can support our community through this global game,” adds Mr. Crews.

The Crescent City Football Club is excited to welcome Mr. Crews to the team and looks forward to working together to grow the sport of soccer in the community.
